A little about Kamloops...

Kamloops is a city in south central British Columbia, Canada, at the confluence of the two branches of the Thompson River and near Kamloops Lake. It is the seat of the Thompson-Nicola Regional District. Kamloops is also the Tournament Capital of Canada. It is ranked 37th on the list of the 100 largest metropolitan areas in Canada.

Kamloops is home to Thompson Rivers University, an undergraduate degree-granting university with satellite campuses in Clearwater, Barriere, Chase, Williams Lake, 100 Mile House, Cache Creek, Ashcroft, and Lilloœt. TRU also has an open-distance learning division. Kamloops is also home to a satellite campus of Simon Fraser University. TRU has began to offer MBA programs as well as undergraduate degrees.

Sun Peaks Resort is a well-reviewed ski and snowboard hill located nearby. Olympic medalist skier Nancy Greene is director of skiing at Sun Peaks and also the chancellor of Thompson Rivers University. Likewise, the Overlander Ski Club runs the Stake Lake cross country ski area with some 50km of trails. Kamloops is also home to world-famous mountain biking and many world-famous mountain bikers such as Wade Simmons and Matt Hunter. The Kamloops Bike Ranch just opened near Juniper Ridge. The Kamloops Rotary Skatepark located at McArthur Island is one of the largest skateboard parks in Canada.

Sun Peaks Resort is a winter skiing destination located 50 km (driving distance) northeast of Kamloops, British Columbia, Canada.

The summit of the ski area is at an elevation of 2,080 m (6,824 ft), with an 881 m (2,891 ft) vertical rise from the base of the peak. Sun Peaks Resort has 15 square kilometres (3,678 acres) of skiable terrain, and receives an average of 5.6 m (220 in) of snow per year. The resort has 12 lifts with a total capacity of 11,000 riders per hour. There are 117 runs, including 12 gladed areas and 40km of cross country trails. Sun Peaks area averages over 2000 hours of sun a year.

Prior to July 1993, Sun Peaks was known simply as Tod Mountain, named after the highest ski mountain at the resort. The first chair lift, the Burfield chair, as well as the Burfield lodge, opened in 1961. In 1968, the lift was damaged by fire as was forced to close for repairs until December 1970.

In 1992, Tod Mountain was purchased by Nippon Cable Company Ltd. of Tokyo.

The ski area is comprised of three mountains: Tod Mountain, Sundance Mountain, and Mt. Morrisey.

Kamloops is also home to a WHL hockey team, the Kamloops Blazers. It plays at the Interior Savings Centre.
