A little about Coronado...
Coronado is a city in San Diego County, California, United States. The population was 24,100 at the 2000 census. It is nicknamed The Crown City. It is also nicknamed The Tent City, referring to tourists' tents that once lined Coronado Beach during the summer-vacation season.Coronado is home to the famous Hotel del Coronado, built in 1888 and long considered one of the world's top resorts. It is listed as a National Historic Landmark and appeared in films such as Some Like It Hot and The Stunt Man. The Del has had many American herœs come to visit, such as Charles Lindbergh, Thomas Edison and legendary sports figures such as Babe Ruth, Jack Dempsey, Willie Mays, Magic Johnson, and Muhammad Ali. [citation needed] Many presidents have also visited the historic hotel, such as Taft, Roosevelt (FDR), Johnson, Nixon, Ford, Carter, Reagan, Bush, and Clinton and First Lady Laura Bush.
Coronado is a small “island” town in San Diego Bay, approximately 7.4 square miles in size, connected to the City of San Diego by the San Diego-Coronado Bridge and to the City of Imperial Beach to the south by State Highway 75. The town is the neighbor of Naval Base Coronado which includes Naval Air Station North Island, home port for two aircraft carriers and the Naval Amphibious Base where the elite SEALS are trained.
