De Soto is a city in Johnson County, Kansas, along the Kansas River. The population was 4,561 at the 2000 census. De Soto is located at 38.965081, -94.962285. According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 29.3 km² (11.3 mi²), all land.There are some pretty sweet places in De Soto, like this one house with a giant tree in the backyard with large bent branches, it is believed that the branches are bent because it was once used as a site of burial by the Native Americans who lived there. there is also an old hunting lodge deep in the woods where rich city folk spent their weekends back in the early twentieth century.
In the city the population was spread out with 30.5% under the age of 18, 8.1% from 18 to 24, 32.5% from 25 to 44, 20.9% from 45 to 64, and 8.1% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 32 years. For every 100 females there were 103.2 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 100.4 males.
